Interim CFO Services

Your company is growing fast - perhaps preparing for a capitalisation event or sale. Your advisors have said you need a full-time CFO on the team - but that is expensive, and you may still not get someone with the broad experience necessary to help you through the next stages.

Rather than committing to a long-term relationship with an expensive new hire, consider the alternative - an interim, full- or part-time CFO who brings the business understanding, experience of business growth and sale, as well as the ability to get the best out of the existing Finance team.

Nigel has run, advised, supported or worked with Finance functions from one-person operations up to globally dispersed Finance departments of several thousand people. He knows what good (and bad!) looks like.

He originally trained and qualified as an accountant (FCCA) with a UK provisional firm before founding his first software business in the 1990s. He has since founded and run other businesses and been an expert designer, advisor and implementor of finance systems in organisations from SMEs through FTSE250s to the largest global banks.

He was founding partner, CFO and CTO of ReportSource, a consultancy that grew to a 70-person business in six years before being sold to Deloitte Consulting.

Nigel stayed with Deloitte to help Post-Merger Integration from a people, technology, client and finance perspective, and has subsequently collaborated with Deloitte on systems implementation and major change projects.

He has a deep understanding of how technology can be used to support and improve businesses of all sizes, not just in the Finance function itself, but across the wider business. He is a passionate believer in having the Finance department provide genuine forward-looking information and insight, not just the ‘historic numbers’.

He focuses on improving business processes, making the mundane tasks more efficient so that time can be spent concentrating on what makes a real difference to the running and profitability of the business. This also helps to ensure that the Finance team are well-respected and have an interesting and fulfilling role.

He is able to step back and look at the bigger picture but is not afraid to get stuck into the detail when necessary. He firmly believes that keeping a hand ‘close to the coal face’ and still being able to ‘do the job’ enables him better to support those working for him and to gain their trust and respect.
