The core of an HFM application is its rules - these are written in code, specifically (for now), Microsoft VBScript. It is possible to make HFM do almost anything - it is also possible to make a horrible mess and ensure that what it does, it does way too slowly.
For small HFM implementations, non-performant rules code may not be particularly noticeable and so won't matter much - but for any significant HFM application, and especially for some of the largest, poorly written rules matter hugely - the knock-on impacts of poor performance affect everything.
At epmgurus we have vast experience designing, implementing and, occasionally, fixing some of the largest HFM applications in existence, with thousands of legal entities and, in some cases, thousands of users spread across almost every time zone.
We offer a highly flexible service to undertake a performance review of your existing HFM implementation, and in particular to analyse the detailed performance of the rules in the context of the overall application design.
Much of this work can be done off-site - we have the experience, tools and techniques to analyse the rules and metadata of your application without disrupting your operations. We typically will require some interaction time with your support staff and key users after our initial investigations, in order to confirm our understanding of some design points and any significant operational issues being experienced.
The result of the review is a comprehensive report including recommendations for improvement. Some of these will be entirely technical, involving performance improvements to the rules that have no impact on existing business processes, application metadata or data. Others may involve wider changes, but the impact, implications and predicted benefits of each will be fully described in order to help you to make an informed decision about appropriate next steps.
We can, of course, help you to implement any or all of the suggestions and/or to support your existing team in doing so.
We've done this type of review for some of the biggest and most complex HFM implementations on the planet, and have produced substantial benefits for relatively low cost.
